It’s a unique connection (no, not that one ) which has ignited "President Musk" jokes, cutting magazine covers, and discussions about a "bromance," but can we consider the tight bond between the U.S. President? Donald Trump and Doge boss Elon Musk face the threat of a separation due to the economic upheaval resulting from the latter's retaliatory tariffs?
As a reminder, the Republican politician slapped tariffs on a whole host of countries last week – including distant islands home solely to penguins and seals — resulting in the stock market ending with the Dow Jones falling below by over 2,000 points in the worst week for the stock market since 2020.
To make matters worse, JPMorgan has increased the likelihood of a recession to 60 percent , as a step that might ultimately lead to justifying Democratic nominee Kamala Harris During last year's presidential election campaign, she cautioned that her rival's economic strategy "would lead to a downturn" by "mid-next year."
Things aren't looking good for Musk, either, as the Tesla share price continues to tumble with Americans demonstrating against the automobile manufacturer and Musk’s connection to the Trump administration .
He has also had to deal with Trump. keeping an eye on the conclusion of his tenure at the Department of Government Efficiency , informing journalists last Monday: "He's incredible, but he also has a large corporation to manage, so eventually, he'll have to return."
Awkward.
Currently, Musk has expressed reservations about Trump's stance on tariffs. He conveyed to Italy's Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini from the right-wing Lega party: "Ultimately, I hope that both Europe and the U.S. reach an agreement—ideally, as I see it—to establish a zero-tariff environment, essentially forming a free-trade area spanning Europe and North America."
That’s what I aspire for—an increase in the liberty of individuals to travel between Europe and North America as they choose. In my opinion, if someone wants to work in Europe or desires to work in North America, they ought to have the opportunity to do so.
That has undoubtedly been my counsel to the president.
However, Musk's fairly critical comments have led people to believe he might be "gently initiating the end" of his relationship with Trump.
Another quipped, "The divorce is nearly finalized":
Next, regarding the substance of Musk's remarks, journalist Aaron Rupar reacted by posting the stock image behind it. the satirical ClickHole article Heart-wrenching: The Most Despicable Person You're Familiar With Just Raised An Excellent Argument
It was noted that both Europe and the U.S. previously considered entering into a free trade deal called the Trans-Atlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, commonly referred to as TTIP, although this did not materialize. stopped by Trump during his initial term :
And at this moment, amidst all the repercussions from the tariffs, the European Union is dealing with it. has not had particularly favorable views towards Trump or, alongside European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stating that the outcomes of the US president's tariffs "will be devastating for millions of individuals."
