Roy Sjoberg, the lead engineer responsible for the initial generation of this project, played a crucial role. Dodge Viper And John Sjoberg, who is hailed as the "Godfather of the Viper," died on March 30, 2025, at the age of 86. Although he might not be as famous as others from his era, the fierce performance characteristic of the initial models of the V-10 sports car can largely be attributed to Sjoberg’s innovative ideas and relentless efforts alongside his team.

Sjoberg was born on November 8, 1938, in Erie, Pennsylvania. However, during his childhood, he frequently moved due to his father's engineering job. Eventually, they settled in Michigan where Sjoberg attended Grosse Pointe High School and graduated in 1956. Following this, he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan before beginning his professional journey at General Motors within the automotive sector.

In 1997, Sjoberg stepped down from his role in the automotive sector, yet he continued to serve as a consultant for entities such as Maserati, Ferrari, and even the U.S. military. He is survived by his spouse of 63 years, Peg; three offspring; seven grandkids; and one great-grandchild.
