WARWICK – Beginning on the evening of April 11, the traffic lanes will be affected as follows: Interstate 95 North in Warwick, at the merge with Route 4, will be shifted to the right.

The relocation will establish a work area that will remain until at least early summer to reduce the lane widths. After this period, the lanes are anticipated to shift once more, now towards the left, as stated in a press release from the agency. Rhode Island DOT

As part of a $12.4 million initiative aimed at expanding the roadway, the lane shift will create additional room for vehicles entering the highway, ultimately seeking to lessen traffic jams during peak travel times.

The shift to the right also marks the start of a season of lane closures, usually in overnight hours, between 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., although no specific closures have been announced.

As stated in the release, the project should be completed by autumn.

As part of this project, additional modifications encompass the installation of new guardrails at multiple locations along I-95 between Route 3 and Route 2, the statement notes.
