A female victim remains in serious condition following an accident on Route 1 last Wednesday, April 9th, which also caused utility poles to collapse, according to officials.
At 12:16 p.m., law enforcement officials arrived at an accident scene on Route 1 South close to Randolph Road at the boundary between Rahway and Woodbridge. The Rahway police reported discovering multiple damaged utility poles upon their arrival.
The video depicts firefighters present at the location of a blazing car.
Drivers on social media stated that the incident resulted in a "nightmare traffic situation."
A 69-year-old traveler from New York who was in one of the vehicles was taken to a local hospital for urgent surgery and is still critically ill, according to law enforcement officials.
Southbound Route 1 in Rahway continues to have only one functional lane, according to authorities. The entrance ramp to southbound Route 1 near the Super 8 Motel stays closed as well, the police stated. Both directions of Randolph Avenue are shut down at the intersection with Elston Street extending up to Woodbridge Road. Engineers are still working on repairing the traffic light system at Randolph Avenue.
The investigation into the crash is still ongoing.
